What is the difference between floor marking tape and floor marking paint?
Floor marking tape is a self-adhesive vinyl strip applied directly to a clean, prepared floor, giving an instant, durable line without drying time. Floor marking paint is applied wet with a roller or line marking machine and bonds into the floor surface, which can offer better longevity on very heavy-traffic routes but needs curing time before the area can be used.
How do I prepare a floor surface before applying tape or paint?
The floor must be clean, dry and free of dust, grease, loose debris and old adhesive residue before applying tape or paint, as poor adhesion is the main cause of early failure. Some surfaces benefit from a primer, particularly porous concrete before painting. Always check the manufacturer's surface preparation guidance for the specific product and floor type.
Is floor marking tape suitable for forklift traffic and heavy footfall?
Heavy-duty floor marking tapes are designed specifically for forklift routes and high-footfall areas, using thicker vinyl and stronger adhesive than standard office or light-use tape. Standard tape can lift or wear quickly under repeated wheeled traffic. Match the tape grade to your traffic type, and ask us if you are unsure which is suitable for a warehouse aisle.
How long does floor marking paint take to cure?
Cure and dry times vary by product, temperature and ventilation, so always check the specific paint's technical data sheet before opening an area to traffic. What makes a floor marking product anti-slip?
Anti-slip floor marking products include an additive, such as fine aggregate or a textured coating, mixed into the paint or laminated onto the tape surface to increase grip underfoot, particularly when wet.
