Our most frequently asked questions for Fruit & Veg & Bakery Displays
What's the difference between a fruit and veg display and a bakery display unit?
Fruit and veg displays are generally built with open, tiered or sloped shelving to show loose produce and allow good stock rotation and airflow. Bakery displays more often include enclosed or part-enclosed sections, sneeze guards, and sometimes wicker or timber-effect trays suited to bread and pastries. Both are available in stock or made-to-order sizes.
Are produce display units suitable for chilled use?
Some units are designed purely for ambient produce, while others are built or can be adapted for chilled or refrigerated use, so it varies by model. If chilling is needed, check the specification before ordering, as not every frame or shelf material suits a refrigerated deck. Tell us your requirement and we'll point you to the right range.
What are produce displays typically made from?
Materials vary by range and budget, typically including painted or galvanised steel frames, timber or timber-effect shelving, and wicker or wire baskets and trays. Some displays combine several materials for a farm shop or market look, while others use plain steel and laminate for a straightforward, hard-wearing retail finish. Ask us for samples if the finish matters to you.
Can display units be used outdoors, for example for a farm shop or market stall?
Some ranges are built for outdoor or semi-outdoor use, with weather-resistant finishes suited to market stalls, farm shops and covered forecourts, but not all indoor display units are designed to withstand rain and damp. Check the specification before siting a unit outside permanently, or ask us for options from our weather-rated ranges.
Do fruit and veg displays come with tiered or sloping shelves?
Many units use tiered or sloped shelving to display loose stock at an angle, making it easier for shoppers to see and pick items and helping with natural drainage and airflow. Flat-shelf designs are also available where tiering isn't wanted, for example for boxed or pre-packed produce. Let us know your stock type and we'll advise.
Are bakery and produce displays easy to clean?
Generally yes, most units are built with cleaning and food hygiene in mind, using wipeable surfaces, removable trays or liners, and materials that cope with regular washdown. Timber and wicker elements typically need more careful cleaning than steel or laminate. If you're working to specific hygiene requirements, tell us and we'll confirm suitable materials.
