Our most frequently asked questions for Hoop Barriers
What's the difference between bolt-down and root-fixed hoop barriers?
Bolt-down hoop barriers fix onto an existing hard surface using a base plate and anchor bolts, making them suited to sites where digging isn't practical. Root-fixed hoops are set directly into the ground in a concrete footing, giving a more permanent and typically more robust fixing. The choice usually comes down to surface type and how permanent the installation needs to be.
What diameter hoop barrier do you supply?
Hoop barriers are generally available in a range of tube diameters, with heavier-gauge tube offering greater strength for higher-risk locations. The right diameter depends on the level of protection needed and the site's traffic, whether pedestrian or occasional vehicle contact. Give us details of the application and we can recommend a suitable specification.
Are hoop barriers galvanised or powder coated?
Both finishes are available, and many hoop barriers are hot-dip galvanised as standard with an option to powder coat over the top in a RAL colour. Galvanising alone gives good corrosion resistance for utilitarian sites, while a powder-coated finish suits locations where appearance matters, such as public realm or retail frontages.
What spacing should hoop barriers be installed at?
Spacing depends on what the barrier is protecting against and the level of restriction required, with tighter spacing used where pedestrians need to be firmly kept off an area and wider spacing where the barrier is more of a visual deterrent. There's no single fixed figure for every situation, so it's worth discussing your layout with us before ordering.
Can hoop barriers be used to protect pedestrians from vehicles?
Hoop barriers are primarily a pedestrian guarding and deterrent product rather than a vehicle-impact barrier. They mark boundaries, protect verges and planted areas, and discourage vehicles from mounting kerbs or pavements, but where genuine impact protection is needed a dedicated bollard or crash-rated barrier is the more appropriate choice.
Do you supply hoop barriers in bulk for trade/local authority orders?
Yes, hoop barriers are commonly ordered in bulk for local authority, housing and commercial contracts, and trade pricing is usually available for larger quantities. Lead times for bulk orders vary depending on finish and stock levels, so get in touch with your required quantity and we'll confirm availability.
Can hoop barriers be removed or are they permanent?
This depends on the fixing method chosen. Bolt-down hoops can be unbolted and relocated relatively easily, while root-fixed hoops set in concrete are intended as a permanent installation and are much harder to remove. If future flexibility matters, bolt-down is generally the better option for your site.
