Our most frequently asked questions for Street Furniture
What's the difference between galvanised and powder-coated street furniture?
Galvanising coats steel in zinc to protect against rust and is the standard base finish for most outdoor street furniture, giving long-term corrosion resistance even where the surface is scratched. Powder coating adds a durable colour finish on top, either directly or over galvanising for extra protection. Many ranges offer galvanised, powder-coated, or both combined.
Are benches and seating suitable for fixing to the ground?
Most outdoor benches and seating are designed to be fixed down, either bolted to a solid base or set into ground sockets, to prevent movement, tipping or theft. The fixing method depends on the surface, whether concrete, paving or hard standing. Tell us the base type and we'll confirm the right fixing kit.
What sizes do litter bins and cigarette bins come in?
Sizes vary considerably by range, from small wall or post-mounted cigarette bins through to larger free-standing litter bins for high footfall areas. Capacity, height and aperture size all differ between models, so the right choice depends on expected use and how often the site is emptied. Let us know the location and likely volume and we'll suggest sizes.
Are tree grilles suitable for all tree sizes?
Not necessarily. Tree grilles are made in a range of diameters and centre hole sizes to suit different trunk girths, and a grille sized for a young tree won't suit a mature one long-term. Some designs include expandable or segmented centres to allow for growth. Check the trunk diameter, now and expected in future, before ordering.
How much maintenance does outdoor street furniture need?
Maintenance is generally low, particularly for galvanised or powder-coated steel and recycled plastic products, which are built to withstand weather without regular treatment. Timber elements typically need more attention, such as periodic staining or oiling, to keep their appearance and protect against the elements. Cleaning debris off regularly helps any finish last longer.
Can street furniture colours be matched to a scheme, for example a shopping centre or business park?
Yes, in most cases. Powder coating can typically be specified in a wide range of colours, including RAL matches, so street furniture can be co-ordinated with signage, branding or an existing scheme across a site. Lead times can be longer for bespoke colours, so it's worth asking early in the project.
