Root fixed or surface mounted?

Root fixed legs are concreted into the ground, the strongest option for new installations. Surface mounted shelters bolt down onto an existing concrete or tarmac surface. Both are the same price.

Do I need end panels?

End panels close in the sides of the shelter, for extra protection from wind and rain blowing in. They're optional, and worth adding on exposed sites.

Do walkway canopies need planning permission?

Often not, as many canopies fall under permitted development, but this depends on size, height and whether the canopy is attached to a listed building or within a conservation area. School and commercial sites sometimes require consent as part of a wider scheme, so check with your local authority before ordering.

Are school shelters designed to withstand heavy use?
