The Eco is our best-selling smoking shelter. It gives staff and visitors a dry, covered place to smoke or vape, away from your entrances. It's a no-nonsense steel shelter at a budget price. We supply it to offices, warehouses, factories, retail sites, pubs and clubs across Great Britain.

Does the Eco smoking shelter meet UK smoking law?

Yes, when it's installed as designed. Under the Smoke-free (Premises and Enforcement) Regulations 2006, a shelter with a roof counts as "substantially enclosed" if less than half of its walls are open. That would make it illegal to smoke in. The Eco is open at the front, and its side and back panels don't run full height, so it stays within the 50% rule. Don't add extra panels or put it tight against a wall or fence, as that can make it non-compliant. As the site owner, you're responsible for making sure the finished installation complies.

Surface mounted or root fixed: which do I need?

Surface mounted bolts straight down onto existing concrete, paving slabs, block paving or tarmac. It's the quickest option and the one most customers choose. Root fixed has longer legs that are concreted into the ground. It suits soft ground, or sites where you want the shelter fixed permanently.

Where should I put a smoking shelter?

Keep it away from doorways, opening windows and air intakes, so smoke doesn't drift back into the building. Council guidance commonly recommends leaving about 1.5m between the shelter and nearby walls or structures, so air can flow through. Some councils say smoking shelters need planning permission, so check with your local council before you install.

What else can it be used for?

Plenty. The Eco also works well as a staff break area, a parent waiting area at schools and nurseries, or a spectator shelter at sports grounds.
