The Marquis: Large Multi-Use Smoking Shelter (3m, 6m or 9m)

The Marquis is our premium large-capacity shelter for sites that need serious covered space. It has a deep 1950mm roof and comes in 3m, 6m or 9m lengths. It works as a smoking shelter, a vape area, a staff break area or a parent waiting area, and it's built to keep people properly dry while staying within UK smoking law.

Is the Marquis compliant with UK smoking law?

Yes, when it's installed as designed. Under the Smoke-free (Premises and Enforcement) Regulations 2006, a roofed shelter counts as "substantially enclosed" if less than half of its walls are open. The Marquis has a full rear panel and half-height side panels, with the front left open, so it keeps the required 50% open area. Don't add extra panels or fit it hard against a wall, as either can make it non-compliant. As the site owner, you're responsible for making sure the finished installation complies.

Which length do I need?

Size it for your busiest break time. The 3m suits a smaller workplace or pub garden. The 6m and 9m suit factories, warehouses, hospitals, schools and retail parks, where a lot of people are on break at once or you want one long shelter in place of several small ones. Not sure? What else can it be used for?

Because of its size, the Marquis also works well as a covered staff break area, a parent waiting area at schools and nurseries, or a spectator shelter at sports grounds.

Where should I put it?

Keep it away from doorways, opening windows and air intakes. Council guidance commonly recommends leaving about 1.5m between the shelter and nearby walls or structures, so air can flow through. A shelter this size is more likely to need planning permission, so check with your local council before you order.
